David Porter is a Songwriters Hall of Fame-inducted songwriter, producer, entrepreneur and a native of Memphis, Tenn.  He is a cornerstone of the legendary Stax Records of Memphis.  At the age of nineteen, Porter recorded his first record as a solo singer for Golden Eagle Records and he became the first staff songwriter for Stax Records.  With Isaac Hayes as his co-writing partner, they became one of the top songwriting and producing teams in the entire industry.  David Porter's songs have been connected to music sales in excess of 300 million units worldwide.  Some of his most successful songs are: "Soul Man", "Hold On I'm Coming", "When Something is Wrong With My Baby" and "I Thank You" to name just a few.  Porter also includes in his credits "Dream Lover" by Mariah Carey and "Getting Jiggy Wit It" by Will Smith as well as many, many others.  Porter is the founder of The Consortium MMT, a national mentoring program based in Memphis.  Through this program, Porter connects successful music professionals and entrepreneurs with experience in various disciplines of the entertainment industry with talented youth in an effort to offer invaluable insight and provide them with an opportunity to cultivate their artistry. 

On February 7 at 11 a.m., Porter will join us in the Sanders Soundstage for a presentation about his extensive career, offering advice and industry insight. 

This program is best suited for high school and college students.
